Jerk Avocado Dip

While dips were not common where I grew up in Jamaica, I have come to appreciate having dips and chips at parties and other social gatherings. So I went out and tried a dip of my own making and just thought I would share it with you.

1 Ripe Avocado

1 medium Onion

¼ tsp. Sugar

1 tbsp. Cooking Oil

1 tbsp Vinegar

1 tbsp. Jerk Seasoning (Dry or Wet)

½ tbsp. Garlic Powder

½ sprig. Thyme

Remove the skin from the avocado. Slice the avocado into small pieces and place all the other ingredients into the electric blender. Blend until smooth and serve with plantain chips, banana chips, or breadfruit chips. And speaking of breadfruit chips, learn how to make them from the latest addition of my web page: https://www.jamaican-recipes.com/breadfruit.html

If this dip looks a little too dark you may add some sour cream to it, however, but you may have to increase your jerk seasoning to retain the taste. Experiment with it a little and let me know how it turns out.

I must confess the original recipe had scotch bonnet peppers in it but it was too spicy, so I omitted it from this recipe to make it children-friendly.
